The 4th Special Concert at the Yanmar Museum

The Yamaoka Memorial Foundation held the "4th Special Concert at the Yanmar Museum" on Sunday, July 10, 2022. Once again this year, we took firm measures to prevent the spreading of the novel coronavirus and limited the number of visitors.

The purpose of this project is to promote cultural exchange not only between Japan and Germany, but also between Japan and Europe. It is our goal to provide the audience, and especially young people who will be the leaders of the next generation, with an opportunity to experience the splendor and depth of European classical music and representative music of Japan through high-quality performances. The concert featured music by great European composers, and a representative Japanese piece: “Jounetsu Tairiku.” The concert was enjoyable for people of all ages, from children to the elderly, as well as those who are not well versed in music.

<Nagahama mayor Asami also attended the concert, introduced Yanmar, and greeted the audience.>

The unique sound of the marimba combined with the powerful drums created an electrifying harmony, and some of the audience members surrendered themselves to the music and imitated the marimba's hand movements while enjoying the pieces. The ensemble of violins, viola, cello, contrabass, flute, and oboe, composed of members of the three major orchestras in Osaka, performed a wide range of music from gentle and relaxed pieces to powerful pieces filled with the composer's soul. This wonderful performance made the audience want to listen to the music forever.
The performers also introduced the backgrounds of the pieces in an easy-to-understand manner, providing an opportunity for the audience to enjoy the concert even more deeply.
The explanation about the breathing for flute and oboe also provided an opportunity for the children to become more familiar with instruments they had never played before.

When the encore piece ended, the venue was filled with an atmosphere of sadness that the fun was now over, with some audience members giving a standing ovation and the applause echoing throughout the hall.
In the audience questionnaire, we received comments that the performance was so wonderful that the respondents could not fit their impressions into the survey field. Audience members who were brass band students, said they were able to make new discoveries and learn new things through the concert.
In addition, when asked if they would like to see this type of concert held again next year, 90% of respondents said they would like to see this type of concert held again with many stating that it should be held every year.

<The performers and the presenter received flowers from Mr. Asami, mayor of Nagahama, Mr. Oda, Nagahama Superintendent of Education, and Mr. Horikawa, Head of the Nagahama Culture and Sports Promotion Agency>
